Legacy Ball 2015
T
he Kiawah Conservancy’s Legacy Ball, our
single, yearly fundraiser, was held on November
16, 2015. That date was not exactly according
to plan. The event was originally scheduled
for October 4th, but the weather had other ideas. Everyone
remembers the “Big Rain” of 2015 when over two feet of rain
fell in a few days in the Charleston area. After a couple of
attempts to move the time a day or two, we finally had to fall
back and find a new date. Happily the November date worked
perfectly, and the event was amazing.
The party that was nearly a washout, in the end, was a
complete sellout. The River Course Club House was a perfect
setting, and the food was fabulous. Guests bid on numerous
silent auction items and entered into a very vigorous live
auction under the energetic direction of guest celebrity
Tom Crawford, a certified licensed auctioneer and benefit
auctioneer specialist, easily recognizable as the charming
weather forecaster on local television stations.
Vickie Wile, event chair and Conservancy board of trustees
member, served as master of ceremonies and assisted with
auction duties. Six driven bidders won the opportunity to
trap alligators with the research team conducting a study on
Kiawah, and a complete party for 40 people at Cinder Creek
sold twice.
Jack Kotz presented a summary of the alligator research
underway on the Island and introduced special guest Matt
Guillette, a member of the research team, who will be
conducting the alligator trapping outings. Also on hand were
naturalists from the Heron Park Nature Center accompanied
by live alligators. Presenting sponsors were Anderson
Insurance Associates and AIG. NK
