Kiawah’s NATURE
By Grisham N. Tholan, Age 10
The strong sun blazing through the branches,
Beautiful birds soaring through the sky, chirping and squawking,
Murky ponds full of those famous and mighty alligators,
Tall palm and oak trees that fume out the most precious oxygen,
The giant ocean where marine animals thrive,
Owls hooting proudly while they’re on the search for mice,
Moon shining with glory when I go to sleep,
The great long beach letting the most colorful shells wash upon it,
Kiawah is nature’s meetinghouse!
Wonderful Sights of Kiawah
By Dylan S. Tholan, Age 10
Squirrels are climbing, birds are flying, oh what a wonderful sight to see!
Alligators are swimming, people are fishing, oh what a wonderful sight to see!
When the waves crash, people dash, oh what a wonderful sight to see!
Dad is sleeping, dolphins are leaping, oh what a wonderful sight to see!
People running through the park, hearing happy dogs bark, oh what a wonderful sight to see!
Meet Grisham and Dylan Tholan
Our poets this month are 10-year-old identical twins. Dylan is four minutes older than Grisham. The
boys live with their family in Potomac, Maryland, but visit their villa in Kiawah as often as possible. In
fact, the Tholas recently reinforced their commitment to Kiawah when they purchased a lot on which
they will build a home one day. The twins have a younger brother (Karan, 71/2) and a little sister (Uma, 3,
also known as the “princess”). We asked them what they liked best about Kiawah.
From Grisham:
I love the nature in Kiawah. That’s one of the main reasons we go there. The wildlife
there is so unique and exciting to watch. Herons, alligators, birds, and other things. I
also love the beach because I like to play in the waves. I like to bike, build sandcastles,
and look for sand crabs on the beach. The community there is very kind, and it has
the perfect landscape for biking. I also love the Night Heron Park with its soccer
field, Kamp Kiawah, the pool, and waterpark. It’s great spending time in Kiawah.
From Dylan:
One of my favorite things to do is to spot the alligators. They are very common in
Kiawah, but rare anywhere else. I also like the ocean, crabs, camp, the soccer field,
and especially Night Heron Park. Basically, everything I see and do in Kiawah is my
favorite thing: for example, crabbing in the marshes, swimming in the ocean, and
playing on the soccer field. Where can you find another place like this?
