Our Legacy for Kiawah Island “The mission of the Kiawah Conservancy is to provide the vision, leadership and resources necessary to preserve and enhance Kiawah Island’s unique balance of nature and development. We are an independent, research driven, not-for-profit organization.” F  requent wildlife encounters are one of the most appealing pleasures of life on Kiawah Island. A wide spectrum of native plants and animal species calls Kiawah home. Many migratory birds visit the Island seasonally. Residents and visitors alike revel in the superb natural diversity and beauty of the Island. It is a unique place where native landscapes, wildlife, and people coexist for the benefit of all; a place where wonderful memories are made. So many of those memories are built on the natural wonders here. Plant and animal life only thrive in a balanced environment. It is our responsibility as a community to preserve the delicate balance that provides a haven for our native plants, a habitat for wildlife, and the opportunity for residents and guests to enjoy the experiences this special place affords. The Kiawah Conservancy is committed to understanding the critical natural habitat needed to maintain a healthy, balanced and diverse population of native plants and animals on Kiawah Island. Research, educational forums, community outreach, land preservation and habitat enhancement programs are all ways the Kiawah Conservancy protects and enhances the habitat of Kiawah. The Kiawah Conservancy is committed to: •• Preserving key areas through property acquisition and acceptance of conservation easements; •• Providing incentives, guidelines and support for restoration and enhancement of habitat on developed properties; •• Conducting and supporting research that helps maintain healthy habitats and wildlife species; •• Identifying and closely monitoring threats to Kiawah
