70 Number Kiawah Causeway I enjoy driving onto Kiawah in the mornings when the causeway sweetgrass is in bloom, backlit by the sun and swaying in the breeze. - Carla Howard I love crossing over the Kiawah River bridge every morning. The sunrises are gorgeous and I feel uplifted daily by that view. - Carrie Newbern I usually come to work early in the morning. I look forward to rounding the last curve, crossing the bridge and seeing the most incredible sunrises ever. Then, when I leave late enough, the sun provides the most beautiful sunsets over the Kiawah River. This tidal, salt-water river is everchanging, sometimes mirror smooth, sometimes, if the wind blows strong, troubled by waves. Playful bottlenose dolphins may surround your kayak, swimming close, looking you in the eye. Ospreys cruise overhead, plummeting to take their fill of the river’s bounty. Herons and egrets station themselves on the riverbank at respectful intervals. Gliding pelicans patrol the waterway, the tips of their enormous wings nearly touching its surface. At low tide, the river narrows, exposing sand bars and craggy oyster beds, alive w
