The Medal of Honor was instituted by President Lincoln and first awarded to select individuals who fought in the Civil War . It is the highest award for valor in action against an enemy force that can be bestowed upon an individual serving in the armed services .
The sprawling Grove pays tribute to medal recipients through memorials and obelisks located on land set apart for each of the fifty states and two U . S . territories . This historic part of the Freedoms Foundation campus is noted for its walking trails and woodland beauty . protecting working lands

Located in the heart of the Hopewell Big Woods , the Pyle Farm was once slated for development , which would have further fragmented this important landscape . When Tom Pyle approached Natural Lands hoping to preserve his family ’ s farm , we were able to come up with a creative solution that resulted in both protecting this working farm and adding forested acreage to state game lands .
The agricultural easement , placed on 50 acres of the property , allows Mr . Pyle to continue farming his land . This project was Natural
