Sekiz

Strong references to the area are most prominently achieved through with
the use of local material in Turkish marble. The use of local grey black marble
mined and processed in Yatağan, 40 kilometers from the site, as pavement
on the floors increases the effect of continuity with its surroundings and
natural textures. The impression is heightened by the use of another marble
on the exterior walls, the light grey ‘kaplan postu’ or ‘tiger stripe” marble,
which is quarried from Afyon on the Turkish Mediterranean. Here one
common material in marble is mapped onto the wall to emphasize its shape
enhancing the material morphology of the architecture. A sense of solidity
and engagement with the colors and textures of the region is achieved
through this material morphology.
Building operation
The building’s architecture adjusts to critical aspects of its operations. At the
building entrance, thanks to the double directional circulation provided from
the first control point the flow of the circulation is regulated. This set-up
enables the administration to keep one wing in a reserve capacity during low
season in order to lower maintenance and operational cost. In the terminal
building that hosts eight airplane bridges, one of the bridges has double
blowers that enable connection to larger airplanes. Accessing the terminal
and aircrafts via the glass bridges, passengers pass over a green landscape
of banana and olive trees, daphnia and paper flower favorable to the hot
Bodrum climate. These connections to the local setting are also accounted for
in the nighttime. To achieve a sense of clarity and simplicity in the design of
