2009 and June 2011. Set next to a park on a site belonging
to La Rioja state government where more than 1300 grape
vines were already planted, the project consists simply of
three buildings: The linear volume partially placed under
ground level houses all the wine production units including
fermentation, the pavilion with an angular form where
lectures and conferences are organized and a tower with
offices. These three buildings whose architectural program
is centered around all aspects of viticulture including
presentations on winemaking from fermentation, storage
to sale, marketing and research, appear as distinct volumes
in a complex that is a mix of landscape and architecture.
As a secondary factor in the design is the existing natural
setting and vegetation such as pine trees and bushes that
were preserved as the architects worked around them to
determine the site plan which for example created the
angular form of the pavilion.
BUILDING ECOLOGICAL VITICULTURE
The design strategy followed a process where the building
units were designed with the existing topography and the
