L ondon based Michael Anastassiades’ designs range from tabletop objects to lighting and mirrors bringing together the fields of sculpture, interior design, decorative art and industrial design. His aesthetic is spare yet dramatic, his designs often utilize rich materials and clean, geometric shapes, resulting in pieces that gracefully and subtly engage with their settings. His works can be found in leading hotels, restaurants, and stores around the world, as well as in the permanent collections of major cultural institutions like the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. He has collaborated with distinguished designers and brands, among them Hussein Chalayan, Swarovski Crystal Palace, Flos, and Lobmeyr. His Mobile Chandeliers were installed at Ralph Pucci’s New York and Los Angeles showrooms, while an exhibition of his work has opened at the Point Centre for Contemporary Art in Cyprus, his home country. And lastly, his two lighting collections for Flos that were exhibited at Salone del Mobile in Milan in 2013 were received with great praise. Ironically, Michael Anastassiades is more concerned with the staying power of his designs, rather than being the ‘designer de jour’.
