The square of the theater is a confluence of three
streets that has at its center in MiAS’ design a
pool that occupies a large portion of this small
space. This pool is cut deeply into the surface
of the square using an advanced stereotomic
geometry of travertine at different levels. Each
piece of this travertine construction acts both as
a stacking and surface element forming the pool
in a series of angular shapes. At the center of this
pool is a historic water fountain with an added rust
colored iron canal that allows a secondary flow of
water into the pool. The angular travertine pool
provides a playground for children of all ages from
small children splashing in the water to older ones
using the surfaces for skateboarding. Benches and
seating for a small café bring together adults and
children in a common public space.
