The main square of the city is the largest of
the squares for Banyoles designed by MiAS.
The main features of the square are an open
area and grove of trees surrounded by a series
of historical arches that forms an arcade. The
design consists of the creation of a consistent
uniform pavement in different courses of
travertine blocks in various sizes broken by the
emergence of the stream originating from a side
street in a small pool in the corner of the Square.
For this pool travertine is assembled in masonry
of advanced stereotomic geometry of stones
cut in angular and square forms. The pavement
travertine from the surface of the square
dramatically continues into the water without a
break. A series of round wood benches provides
a contrast to the sharp cuts of the stone
integrating smoothly into the composition. The
arcade continues to the other side of the square
surrounding a grove of trees with benches for
rest and relaxation.
