Mekan/Space Founded by Vitali Hakko in 1934 as ‘Şen Şapka’, Istanbul based fashion and textile company Vakko opened its first store on İstiklal Street, Beyoğlu while its latest store was recently opened at Zorlu Center Istanbul. The motto of the Zorlu Center Vakko store “Fashion, Art, and Architecture”, represents Vakko’s position in Turkey’s retail sector. The store is also positioned as an art gallery to continue the Vakko tradition of connecting fashion, art, and design. The store designed by Pierre Beucler and Jean Christophe Poggioli from Architecture & Associé, Paris, reflects the French architects’ design approach. Natural stone plays a central role in the project as it used on the façade of the store, in interior spaces, and as display units. Marble and granite are used in different forms and functions to offer a different spatial experience combined with lighting and patterns. Particularly the white marble implemented as t riangular prisms on the façade brings a three dimensional depth to the two dimensional surface. Together with advanced lighting, this creative way of using marble on the façade distinguishes Vakko from the other stores on the same floor. The spacious interior with galley spaces is emphasized with a geometric checkerboard type patterns created with black granite and white marble. While white marble is used for the the Vakko Chocolate stand located right behind the staircase; another type of marble with black veins characterizes the men’s couture area. Specifically book matched marble panels placed behind the display units of metal and glass emphasize the feeling of luxury in the store. Display tables are also made of marble to match with the overall concept of the boutique. 38 NATURA • OCAK - ŞUBAT 2014 / JANUARY - FEBRUARY 2014 VAKKO ÜRÜNLERININ YANI SIRA SANAT ESERLERININ DE SERGILENDIĞI MEKANDA PHILIPPE COGNEE IMZALI ‘MERMER ENSTALASYON’ DIKKAT ÇEKIYOR.
