The transitional area between coastal dunes and more stabilized grounds create opportunities for partial to full sun gardens .
This garden celebrates the plant communities found within the maritime shrub thicket and back dune environments . The Chickasaw plum and coral bean offer height and an open form , creating shelter and food for wildlife . The striking upright form and tall blooms of the Spanish dagger yucca and coral bean will rise up amongst the seaside goldenrod and sweetgrass . The sweetgrass will in turn offer a backdrop to the spotted beebalm , black-eyed Susan , and scarlet sage and their mix of flowers and bloom times , ensuring food for the coastal plain pollinators throughout the season . The beautiful and bluish tint of the little bluestem grass and red blooms of the scarlet sage complete the layering of the plant material , allowing the shortest plants to form the front border .
* If desired , larger plant material such as live oaks , magnolias , red cedars , sabal palms , yaupon hollies , and pines be incorporated in this garden mix .
* Full sun refers to areas in your garden that receive six to eight hours of sun each day . Partial sun refer to areas of your garden that receive between four hours and six hours of sun each day . If your plant calls for partial sun , it will do better at the higher end of this sun exposure scale .
