Salem is located in the center of Willamette Valley, perhaps the most
diverse agricultural region on Earth. The region produces more that 170
different crops including grain, hay, grass seed and specialty seeds of all
kinds. Fresh and processed vegetables, tree fruits, berries, hazelnuts, wine
grapes and hops are all grown in the valley.
Amazon and Others Taking Advantage of
Salem’s Enterprise Zone
Amazon plans to construct a $90M, one million square foot fulfillment
center in Salem’s Enterprise zone, taking advantage of large tax breaks to
build in Salem. The area is already home to new developments by Fedex
and Home Depot. The development will employ more than 1,000 full-time

Salem is located 47 miles south of Portland and serves as Oregon’s capital
city. As the capital city, Salem serves as the hub for state government and
recognizes more that 40,000 state employees within the city.
Education
The city is home to Willamette University, Corban University and
Chemeketa Community College. Over 13 public or private universities
and colleges are located within a 70-mile radius of Salem. Salem’s edu-
cational institutions provide undergraduate and graduate programs and
workforce training.
