NANCY BUI-THOMPSON Vice President, Board of Directors
Rancho Cordova, California
Nancy Bui-Thompson was elected to the Sacramento Municipal Utility District Board of
Directors in November of 2008 and currently serves as vice president of the board. She represents
over 250,000 constituents across seven communities. For her “day job,” Bui-Thompson serves as
a director of technology consulting at Public Consulting Group and previously was a consultant
at Accenture and Deloitte. Additionally, she is the founder of Bear HUGS (Hope You Give
Someone) which has provided her opportunities to speak to children about child abuse. The
Sacramento Business Journal awarded Bui-Thompson with “40 under 40” honors. Bui-Thompson
is also a New Leaders Council National 40 under 40 award winner. In 2012, the German
Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF) awarded her the prestigious Marshall Memorial
Fellowship (MMF). She is a graduate of California Polytechnic State University at San Luis
Obispo, where she earned a bachelor’s of science in economics and management information

DENISE CALHOUN Alderwoman
Webb, Mississippi
Denise Calhoun, born and raised in the Delta, is a current resident of Webb, MS. She is the
oldest of two siblings and has two children, ages 13 and 10. Calhoun graduated from West
Tallahatchie High School and later attended Coahoma Community College. She later transferred
and finished her education by earning a B.A. in sociology with a minor in political science from
Mississippi Valley State University. Calhoun later earned a M.Ed. from Ashford University, with
a specialization in family and community service. Calhoun is currently a 4th grade ELA/Social
Studies Teacher at East Elementary, in Greenwood, MS, where she is also the coordinator for
positive behavior intervention. She is an alderwoman for the Town of Webb, where she has been
serving since June of 2013. Calhoun is also a member of Delta Sigma Theta, Sorority Inc., where
she thrives to uphold sisterhood and service throughout her community.
JOE CARN Vice Mayor
College Park, Georgia
Vice Mayor Joe Carn serves on the board of directors for Concerned Black Clergy of Metropolitan
Atlanta, and is the only African-American on the national board of N.O.I.S.E. He has been
invited to the White House on three occasions, twice meeting with the President of the United
States, Barack Obama. In 2016 Vice Mayor Carn was appointed to serve as the State Director
for the Young Elected Officials National Network. The son of R&B vocalist Jean Carn, Carn
attended B.E. Mays High School, DeVry Institute and completed leadership studies at Harvard
University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government. Carn resides in College Park with his wife
Pamela.
