Micah Ali was elected to the Compton Unified School District Board of Education in 2007 and re-elected by a historical landslide in 2011 . Ali prides himself in being a proven responsible and energetic leader , with nontraditional approaches to solving the astoundingly difficult challenges facing California ’ s urban school districts in these economic times . An aerospace project manager , Ali also serves as president of the Compton Meals on Wheels program , president of the Compton Creek Mosquito Abatement District Board of Trustees , vice president of the Los Angeles County Schools Trustees Association , and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Friends of Ballona Wetlands .
BEN ALLEN State Senator

On November 4 , 2014 , California State Senator Ben Allen was overwhelmingly elected to represent the 26th State Senate District . He was selected as a freshman senator to serve as chair of the Senate ’ s Committee on Elections and Constitutional Amendments as well as the state legislature ’ s Joint Committee on the Arts . Allen is a former board member , and former board president , of the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District . He is also an attorney with the law firm of Richardson & Patel LLP and is a lecturer at UCLA Law School , where he teaches education law and policy . Allen also served on the executive board of the Los Angeles County School Trustees Association and was the chair of L . A . County ’ s Committee on School District Organization . Allen has degrees from Harvard , Cambridge , and UC Berkeley , and he is fluent in Spanish .
ALPHONSO AMOS Councilmember
Port Huron , Michigan
At 26 years old , Alphonso Amos was elected to the Port Huron City Council . He is a passionate advocate for youth and young adults , believing in the power of service . Amos is the founder of a nonprofit organization , Impact Youth Services , whose mission is to impact urban youth and to positively influence their families and environment through programs and activities . Amos is a program coordinator for Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan where he works to develop the African American Initiative that will help shape the conversation on the need to create programs and initiatives that reach girls of color . Amos co-coordinates a community outreach program and volunteers for homeless shelters and community clean-up efforts . He is the past president of the Port Huron Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and current youth chapter training director . Amos leads the My Brothers Keepers Initiative , Youth Voice , and the Mentors Matter community initiative .
