Ensuring a Sustainable Future Plenary Panel: Affordable Housing and
Livable Communities

Revitalizing our communities depends in large part on making them
sustainable and affordable for all, vital issues amid a warming climate,
skyrocketing housing costs, and the legacies of redlining. This panel
will focus on engineering resilient communities and addressing the
needs of the people who call them home. We will discuss altering the
traditional city planning process to encourage smart and equitable
growth, ensure affordable housing development, protect public space,
and celebrate civic life.
ROB BREYMAIER Oak Park Regional Housing Center
Rob Breymaier is a national leader in the fields of integration and community opportunity.
As the executive director of the Oak Park Regional Housing Center, he leads the nation’s
most successful effort to promote integration in the private housing market. Through
the efforts of the Housing Center, Oak Park, Illinois has established and sustained a
racially integrated community that has produced multiple benefits for residents of every
race. Breymaier presents regularly about the value of integration and equal opportunity,
speaking to how integrated communities provide a foundation for economic prosperity and

CECIL CORBIN-MARK We ACT
Cecil Corbin-Mark serves as WE ACT for Environmental Justice’s (WE ACT) deputy
director and director of policy initiatives. In this role, he directs and coordinates WE ACT’s
overall program work with a focus on developing and implementing community organizing,
legislative, and policy campaigns. Additional responsibilities at WE ACT include staff
management, oversight of WE ACT’s federal policy office, and fundraising. Since 2008,
Corbin-Mark has served as a co-convener of the Environmental Justice Leadership Forum
on Climate Change, a 40-member alliance of environmental justice groups that has come
together to advance equitable climate policies at the national level. He served on thenGovernor Paterson’s Renewable Energy Task Force, the MTA Blue Ribbon Commission on
Sustainability, and he currently sits on the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative’s Advisory
Body. Corbin-Mark holds a B.A. from Hunter College in political science and an M. Phil.
in international relations from Oxford University.
