Jennifer Wadsworth
Soil & Water Supervisor
Raleigh, North Carolina
In 2010—at age 21—Wadsworth made history when she was elected to the
Wake County Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors—
she’s the youngest woman ever elected to public office in North Carolina.
Hailing from a family farm, she advocated for agriculture and farmland
preservation. With her leadership, the district secured its first conservation
easement and partnered with the U.S. Marine Corps and NAVY to preserve
open space and restrict development under a vital military flight path. Re-elected in 2014, she now
serves as board vice-chair. Wadsworth works as a political and corporate consultant and is the
co-founder of a progressive nonprofit called New Leaders Council–North Carolina. She serves on
the NC School of Science and Mathematics Alumni Association’s Board of Directors, was appointed
to a statewide board to oversee NC State University Women’s Center, and speaks to international
delegations for the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitors Leadership Program.
