Jermaine Reed
City Councilmember
Kansas City, Missouri
Councilman Jermaine Reed represents over 78,000 residents on the
Kansas City Council. He is the youngest member of the council, and was
elected at the age of 26. Overcoming poverty and homelessness, Reed
continues to strive to be an example of what young people can achieve with
perseverance and dedication. Previously, Reed worked in Washington, D.C.
for the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation. Shortly after, he returned
to Kansas City to serve as the community ombudsman for Congressman Cleaver’s green impact
zone, which focused on making the city’s east side the greenest urban core landscape in the country.
He is a first generation college graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia and has a degree in

Alma-Delia Renteria
School Board Member
Lynwood, California
Board Member Alma-Delia Renteria was first elected to an at-large seat
on the Lynwood Unified School District Board of Trustees in the general
election on November 5, 2013. Renteria is a teacher at the Monseñor
Oscar Romero Charter School. She earned her bachelor’s degree from the
University of California, Riverside. She is currently pursuing her master’s
degree in urban education at Loyola Marymount University. Board Member
Renteria also serves as the chair of the Lynwood Alumni College Conference. @MsRenteria4Kids
Chris Rey
Mayor
Spring Lake, North Carolina

Chris V. Rey was elected as mayor of Spring Lake, North Carolina in 2011.
Rey grew up in the community and graduated from Pine Forest Senior High
as a track and field all-American. He attended East Carolina University on
an athletic scholarship and was also a chancellor leadership scholar. Rey
served as an information technology officer in the United States Army
and served in combat tours to Iraq and Afghanistan, earning the Bronze
Star. After being honorably discharged, Mayor Rey obtained a J.D. from the William and Mary School
of Law in 2010. He currently serves as executive director of Cumberland HealthNET, a nonprofit
organization that creates a coordinated system of care for the uninsured residents of Cumberland
