Jermaine Reed Chris Rey Mayor Spring Lake, North Carolina Chris V. Rey was elected as mayor of Spring Lake, North Carolina in 2011. Rey grew up in the community and graduated from Pine Forest Senior High as a track and field all-American. He attended East Carolina University on an athletic scholarship and was also a chancellor leadership scholar. Mayor Rey served as an information technology officer in the United States Army and served combat tours to Iraq and Afghanistan. After being honorably discharged, Mayor Rey obtained a juris doctor degree from William and Mary’s School of Law in 2010. He currently serves as an information technology policy director and strategic planner for the Department of Defense. @ChrisRey4NC Craig Rice County Council Member Germantown, Maryland Craig Rice is a county council member from Germantown, Maryland. He is the current council president of the Montgomery County Council. His political career began in the fall of 2006 when he was elected to the Maryland House of Delegates, defeating a 12 year incumbent. In the legislature, he served on the ways and means committee and the education and fiscal revenue subcommittees. In 2010, Rice was elected to his current position, making him the youngest African American to ever serve on the nine-member council and only the second African American man ever in that role. On the council, he serves on the education and the health and human services committees. Prior to holding elected office, he worked for Marriott International, Aramark Corporation, and as a business development manager for the government of Puerto Rico. @RicePolitics Stay connected: Keep the #YEOmentum going with @YEONetwork 67 YOUNG ELECTED O FFICIALS City Council Member Kansas City, Missouri Councilman Jermaine Reed represents over 78,000 residents on the Kansas City Council. Elected at the age of 26, he is the youngest member of the council. Having overcome poverty and homelessness himself, Reed strives to be an example of what young people can achieve with perseverance and dedication. Previously Reed worked in Washington, DC for the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation. Shortly after, he returned to Kansas City to serve as the community ombudsman for Congressman Cleaver’s green impact zone, which focused on making the city’s east side the greenest urban core landscape in the country. He is a first generation college graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia and has a degree in political science. @JermaineReed
