YOUNG ELECTED OFFICIALS 58 Stephen Mason Council Member Cedar Hill, Texas Steve Mason was elected to the Cedar Hill City Council in 2010, representing Place 5. He has served Cedar Hill as chairman of the planning and zoning commission and is currently on the executive board of the Cedar Hill Chamber of Commerce. Because of his involvement with the chamber, he was appointed to the Best Southwest board. Mason is the president of Mas-Tek Engineering, a local business that provides geotechnical engineering and construction material testing services. He will be up for reelection in May 2016. Amanda McGill State Senator Lincoln, Nebraska Amanda McGill has served in the Nebraska legislature for seven years. She serves as chair of the urban affairs committee and also serves on the judiciary, business, and labor committees. During the last few legislative sessions, she has been an advocate for legislation on human trafficking, children’s mental health, prenatal care, high school career academies, and supporting military families. When she is not focusing on the legislature, she serves as director of program advocacy and giving for the YWCA in Lincoln, Nebraska. Over the last couple years, Amanda received awards from the University of Nebraska Alumni Association and Nebraska Army National Guard. This spring she received the 2013 Lincoln Education Association Friend of Education Award. @amanda_mcgill Marlon McWilson School Board Member Oakland, California School Board Member Marlon McWilson is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, where he played football on an athletic scholarship. During McWilson’s tenure at UC Berkeley, he realized his calling to education, community work, and mentorship. McWilson was an integral part of a mentoring program at McClymonds High School in West Oakland. These experiences led him to enter the teaching profession in the Oakland Unified School District, where he taught at the elementary and high school levels. Currently, McWilson is a business owner in Oakland and the associate academic liaison for Cal Football. 2014 Young Elected Officials Network National Convening
