YOUNG ELECTED OFFICIALS 54 Ivonne Ledesma Village Councilwoman Miami Shores Village Council Ivonne Ledesma was elected to the Miami Shores Village Council in 2013. She is the owner of Sage Lifestyles, located in downtown Miami Shores. Before starting her own business, she was a personal financial analyst for four years, and has also worked in marketing for Canon Latin America. She first began advocating for issues she is passionate about when she founded the Amnesty International chapter at Florida State University in 1997. Ledesma went on to work with the Asian Forum for Human Rights and Development (FORUM-ASIA). She received a BA in international relations from Florida State University and a master’s degree in international administration from the University of Miami. Kimberly Lehmkuhl City Clerk Pleasant Hill, California Kimberly Kehmkuhl is the city clerk of Pleasant Hill, California. She attended Columbia Law School and worked for three years at a public interest law firm in Berkeley, California. She is currently a campaign manager for a national civil rights and voting rights group. @KimPHClerk Sam Liebert Council Member Janesville, Wisconsin In 2011, Council Member Sam Liebert was the first minority ever elected to the Janesville City Council. Liebert is currently a private contractor for the Rock County Health and Human Services Department. He was a former staffer for Mayor Tom Barrett and Senator Russ Feingold and he also served in the Obama administration as a deputy White House liaison to the US Department of Agriculture. @samliebert Henry Lo School Board Member Monterey, California School Board Member Henry Lo was elected to the Garvey Board of Education in 2003 and subsequently re-elected every term. Since his election, he has been appointed by his peers to serve as its president two times. Lo was involved in the creation of the Garvey Education Foundation, a non-profit organization that serves the students of the school district. Between 1998 and 2010, he worked for State Senator Gloria Romero as a member of her district office staff. During his twelve years with the senator, Lo has worked as a field representative, consultant, and district director, and focused on international trade, consumer protections, and local control
