Katrina Shankland
State Representative
Stevens Point, Wisconsin
Representative Katrina Shankland is the youngest state legislator in
Wisconsin. She got her start in politics by working as an organizer in the
recall effort against Governor Scott Walker from November 2011 to May
2012. Shankland has a background centered on renewable energy and
sustainability policy, and has also led an international nonprofit for English
education. She serves on the following assembly committees: workforce development, natural
resources and sporting heritage, energy and utilities, and constitution and ethics. Her legislative
priorities are water and energy policy as well as clean government. Representative Shankland
has a degree in political science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. @repshankland
Nate Shinagawa
County Legislator
Ithaca, New York
Nate Shinagawa has served on the Tompkins County Legislature for over
seven years and is administrative director of Robert Packer Hospital. Under
his direction, the hospital decreased infection rates, reduced medical
errors, and increased employee safety. He has brought this health care
expertise to government, where he works to broaden health care access,
reduce costs, and improve quality as chair of the health and human services committee. In
2012, Shinagawa was his party’s nominee for Congress in New York’s 23rd congressional district.
Despite being outspent three to one, he received 48 percent of the vote. Legislator Shinagawa
also currently serves as campaign chair for a major congressional campaign. @NateShinagawa
Rory Slatko
Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner
Washington, DC
Rory Slatko serves in the Advisory Neighborhood Commission 3D in the
District of Columbia as commissioner and treasurer, representing over
2,000 constituents. He attends American University in Washington, DC,
where he is a junior pursuing a BA in political science. Slatko was born and
raised in Wilmington, Delaware, and was introduced to politics through local
campaigns early in his youth. His interests led him to seek a college education within the District,
where he has found a multitude of opportunities to learn and grow as a young leader. Slatko
also serves as the regional director of the Central Atlantic affiliate of the National Association of
College and University Residence Halls and is currently interning at the Truman National Security
Project.
