Sparta, famous for its strong army, was a military state. Compared
to that of other cities, Sparta’s strict culture did not yield itself well
to luxurious lifestyles for the citizens. The city was comprised of
three types of people: those who paid taxes, those who served in
the army, and non-citizens who were protected by law. As the
iconic line from the movie 300 states, “THIS IS SPARTA!”
