National Classics Week National Classics Week 2019 | Page 2
What is NCW?
National Classics Week is the JCL's annual celebration of the civilizations of
Greece and Rome and their continuing impact upon our contemporary
culture, language, arts, etc. All around the country, we invite members of
the JCL and admirers of the Classics to carry out community service and
publicity projects that give back to their local communities while promoting
the enduring legacy of the Classical Greco-Roman languages and
civilizations. The festivities will culminate in a celebration of the founding of
Rome that occurred 2,772 years ago on April 21st. We invite you to join us
in paying homage to the languages and cultures we love best.
This year's theme is:
Ancient Cities
We look forward to seeing what each of you from around the country has
in store. Please note that the festivities that we have listed on each day are
simply suggestions and do not have to be on that specific day.
We know how excited you are and we cannot wait to share in the
festivities. On the NJCL website, you can find the Proclamation Acquisition
Packet that will guide you in sending out promotional documentation to
local municipalities and state officials. Best wishes and a Happy National
Classics Week!
Sincerely,
Your 2018-19 NJCL Officers
