NATHAN HOUSE NEWSLETTER - Term 4 Volume 1

No 3 Nathan House—Term 4 So, we have come to an end of a journey – an era if you want to call it that. The Nathan House boys, the class of 2017, have reached the end of their first year. I have pulled out a couple of emails from the archives and thought you might enjoy them for a bit of humour (they are all printed with permission). I call this the irate Mom: (this has been the most spoken about email this year) Yes, it is 2:30am – I cannot sleep and actually feel quite nauseous with worry and am unable to still my mind! As “Vietnam” looms, I cannot stop thinking about the 9 applicants that died a few weeks ago in Pmb after a physical assessment for a municipal job! A police or traffic officer also died yesterday in Pmb after a physical assessment! This may seem a bit paranoid but I need some reassurance that the boys Vietnam session will be monitored and that it won’t be the “worst and toughest ever, because it’s the 150 th year”!!! I am sure you will agree that the weather and temperatures have been extreme lately and, that if there is a fatal incident I am sure none of us will ever be able to forgive ourselves. Sorry, but I just had to get that off my chest and bring my fear to your attention. Hoping to hear from you Regards …………. And so it began. Who would have thought that we would have come this far? They made Vietnam with ease and have even made guarding, bolts, prefect’s table while still finding a bit of time to study. We have only had two boys withdraw but gained two quality boys to take up the beds on offer. This one is an even more irate Mom: At this stage I can honestly tell you that I cannot see …. ‘making’ it. He’s depressed and it’s going to get worse if we do not help him. He feels he wants to retain the little bit of self-worth that he has left by not asking for help in the classroom. Bottom line, he needs extra help with school work. Can you help us to set this up for him? Thanking you kindly in advance. This particular youngster did indeed “make it” and now says that he would not leave College for anything. He is also managing academically and has had a little help along the way.
