The first few hurdles they would have to clear weren ’ t exactly small ones Charlotte tell us “ Basically we had no equipment to speak of no employees to assist with any aspect of the business and no loans available to us because of our new business status but we were able to secure a small building we could start production in and we had our savings . So , we decided to take a one at a time approach , one trailer at a time , one employee at a time and one dealer at a time and we just went for it ”. Now , two years later we have 15 employees , and we occupy a manufacturing facility that ’ s 100,000 sq ft ”. When asked what sets them apart from their competition , the couple says “ Our goal is to build better trailers than anyone else , especially in the South . We don ’ t cut corners just to save a couple of bucks , we take our time with each design , hand sketching the trailers to develop new ideas for the designs . One of the other things that is a bit different about us is color ! We manufacture virtually no trailers that are black , so our trailers are more recognizable simply because they don ’ t look like everyone else ”.
Moving forward Southern Utility will be adding dump trailers and gravity tilts to the line-up of offerings . They will also be attending the NATDA Trailer Show for the first time .
