fter struggles with supply chain issues and dangerous work environments alike , QuickLoadz container systems emerged to save the day . With years of experience on its owners ’ side , QuickLoadz ’ s start is sure to simplify container transport everywhere .
NATDA ’ s National Account Manager , Jonathan Spiller , sat down with QuickLoadz ’ s CEO , Sean Jones , to discuss the company ’ s solution to dangerous , slow supply transportation .
Jonathan Spiller , NATDA : Shipping containers are a unique thing to focus on with your trailers . How did your company get into that market ?
Jones : In 2003 , our family-owned construction company , Rockside Construction , consistently had dozens of construction sites working at once . I noticed that most of our trucks and trailers sat around most of the time . Not only that , but our tools and supply trailers were constantly broken into . We realized that if we switched to the use of shipping containers , we would save money on everything from insurance to maintenance . Containers were perfect for what we needed : cheap , durable , needed no insurance and no licensing , hard to break into and very hard to steal . We set up containers as mini storage units and workshops for each of the different stages of construction . The only problem was moving them .
We moved containers with our crane , rollback tow truck and equipment trailers , discovering the hard way that it is illegal to move a container with anything in it and have part of the container hang off the back of the trailer . Small , empty containers weigh in at 4,500 pounds . Loaded full of tools and supplies , they routinely weighed close to 15,000 pounds . Soon other contractors started renting containers from us as well and we entered the mobile storage business . Before long , moving containers became a daily activity .
Moving the containers is a dangerous , skilled , slow job . One day , I was winching a container onto a trailer and the chain snapped – missing my head by mere inches . In that moment , I knew I needed a way to move containers easily and automatically . In fact , I wanted to move our shipping containers without even getting out of my truck . continued on next page
