After several months of hard work and dedication to learning , MacAdams knew the trailer industry was where she wanted to be . With that realization came the prospect of buying the business herself .
“ I wanted ownership of the company I had invested so much time into , so I proposed a buyout to one of the former business partners ,” she remembered .
With that , the company was MacAdams ’ at the ripe age of nineteen . Leaving university to pursue her goal of owning a successful dealership , she faced no shortage of challenges after the purchase . As well as being incredibly new to the industry , she also faced uncertainty in the middle of a global pandemic .
“ I started this business during a huge industry trailer shortage , so nobody wanted to work with me ,” said MacAdams . “ I was eighteen ; I didn ’ t know a thing about trailers . Every manufacturer I called declined to do business with me .”
As any business owner knows , a successful company requires perseverance . So , she persevered , hoping to sign Legend Manufacturing to her newly purchased dealership .
“ I kept getting a no from them , but I kept calling and calling ,” remembered MacAdams . “ I thought to myself , ‘ I ’ m going to go in person and see them and they ’ re not going to say no . They can ’ t say no .’”
The persistence paid off as she managed to sign with the company during her visit as well as four other manufacturers prior . By then , MacAdams employed two mechanics and a bookkeeper .
Though limited only to Canada , MacAdams ’ success allowed her to make the journey to Nashville for her first-ever industry event , the NATDA Trailer Show .
“ Before the show , I had never been in the same room as another dealer – ever ,” stated MacAdams . “ I ’ ve always wanted to meet my competitors . They gave me a lot of industry advice and I loved being able to learn from others who share my passion .”
Though she had help from mentoring dealers at a successful first trade show , it ’ s clear that MacAdams is fully capable of succeeding on her own . Even with two prominent dealers in her province , her dealership has managed to flourish through her own will to create a one-of-a-kind experience for her clients .
“ We really are the dealership that cares ,” she explained . “ I bend over backwards for my customers .”
From buying a dealership in the middle of a pandemic to forcing her way into manufacturers ’ hearts , it ’ s clear that MacAdams isn ’ t lying . The 20-year-old truly , deeply cares .
