With much anticipation over Belmont Trailers ’ involvement in the 2021 NATDA Trailer Show , NATDA National Account Manager Jonathan Spiller sat down with Jake King , partner and general manager of Belmont Trailers , to discuss crucial questions that every potential dealership partner will want to know .
Belmont Trailers was founded in 2002 , originally as Belmont Machine , in Gordonville , Pennsylvania by Mr . Jake Fisher , who had been a partner at another local trailer manufacturer . The company started small , but quickly became known for manufacturing a line of ruggedly built trailers that withstood the tests of the road very well . In 2011 , Belmont Trailers moved to Leola , Pa ., where it had room to expand and meet the demands of a growing dealer base .
By 2015 , the original ownership was looking to exit the trailer business . Though the company had seen its share of struggles in the years prior , Jake King and his family realized the company ’ s potential and , for better or worse , purchased Belmont Trailers . The Kings quickly updated the branding , improved its quality control processes , and added new and improved models . In the last five years , the Kings have seen a lot of growth , with the changes and improvements in their products and services being well received by their loyal dealer network .
2020 was a challenging year for everyone , and Belmont Trailer ’ s lead-time went out a little further than it liked . However , that has not stopped the Kings , who are planning an expansion soon to accommodate an increase in demand . According to King , the company ’ s goal is not to be the lowest-cost manufacturer , but to produce the highest-quality trailer while providing dealer support that surpasses expectations .
Jonathan Spiller , NATDA : What is your most popular product ?
King : In the past , we were known best for our utility and landscape trailers , but we are making progress into the dump trailer and gooseneck trailer markets . An example of this is the DTX Series dump trailers . We started from the ground up and designed a trailer that has garnered a lot of great feedback .
