United Architects of the Philippines 40th National Convention 9-12 April 2014 14 SMX Convention Center Metro Manila Greetings to all our colleagues in the UAP My warmest greetings to our 40th UAP National Convention with the theme: “O.N.E.: Organization-Movers. NationBuilders. Earth-Movers.” shows that UAP can work as ONE. As we established unity and goodwill in this convention, please remember that it is only in understanding that we will become cohesive, to be true to succeed, and to be patient to gain. UAP is growing stronger, so must also be the architect. The contemporary world offers a lot of obstacles for our profession to tackle. But as long as UAP stands, these obstacles when surpassed are our achievements. Which shows the real essence of unity and it is where leading begins. Our role as leaders and artists is complicated, sometimes bittersweet, but at the end, we learn, and in learning, we gain wisdom. Commitment is a condition for passion. We have reached the stage of passion if, we the architects become like a family for which we are willing to make sacrifices. But what motivates us to do so? It is the discovery and conviction that the UAP organization is indeed something special. It has something unique to offer to us architects and to our profession, we see clearly the opportunities the organization provides in terms of service and benefits. The big question is… if and how committed are you to the organization. We may be the best there is in the whole world, but without patience, we may not be able to stay afloat in this ever competitive world where we live. We may have the best talent, admirable at that, but without the attitude which is fitted in an educated society and environs, we are nothing. Discipline above all, and patience, not subservience. Humility not pride. Elegance, not plasticity. My congratulations to the men and women of this 40th National Convention committee who envisioned this monumental event shows that we are ONE-UAP.
