Captains Report Tom Barff, Captain 2019 [email protected] [email protected] Dear Nomads Beachwood was host to Natal’s final monthly game of the year, Gold Cup, which as you know is the culmination of the years’ competitions. We had some very good scores and congratulations to all of the winners. I had the pleasure of playing with the Captain of Beachwood, Carlyle Field, against Geoff Henebrey and Ian Pace. We had a great game, and played well enough to secure the best playing 4 ball for the day on 134 points, well done gents. What a treat it was to be back at Beachwood – I have not played there for quite some time and I was very impressed with the conditioning of the course. It really was looking good after the recent rains and I congratulated Carlyle and the Durban Country Club team for all their efforts that went into making it a great day out. Beachwood has been the home club of Natal Nomads for some time now, and it is not certain yet what the future holds for the course – or whether we will play there again next year. Carlyle is not only captain at Beachwood, but also a member of the board at DCC and during our game we chatted about the club and its future. DCC only has an obligation at this stage to its members for Beachwood to be part of the club until October 2020. They will likely have some certainty on whether this date will be extended, and thus if we will be able to play our Gold Cup game in December 2020 there, following the financial year end March 2020. We will make alternative plans to have our memorabilia and trophies moved to Durban Country Club should Beachwood close. On the day had one waiting list member, Michael Hayes and one visiting Nomad from Western Province, Paddy Padayachee. We also had a number of special presentations being a 10 year tie for Ian Pace, a 15 year tie and a 40 point Silver Salver for Andre Conradie and a 40 year tie for John Crimes. I would like thank Steve McClelland for the hard work that went into the Gold Cup Prize table, it really is a massive effort and much appreciated. To Chad Walters, well done on a slick prize-giving – although we had the unfortunate (standard) delay with scoring we did get through it unscathed in the end! I want to thank you all once again for a great year, I hope that you have a good break over the festive season and I trust that 2020 will be a successful year for you and Natal Nomads. If you are travelling please travel safely and we will see you at our next game which is Thursday 16 th January @ Umhlali Tom Barff Natal Nomads Captain 0832255334 – [email protected]
