of you for your support and guidance over the past year. It has been a wonderful
journey,
few speed bumps along the way, but fortunately

nothing insurmountable thanks to the assistance of the selfless Committee that serves Natal Nomads.

Due to the commencement of the Gary Player Event I unfortunately never got
to play with the GM of Zimbali, Mr Gavin Woodroffe, but Tom
[email protected]
did an excellent job as the club’s representative. In hindsight it may have been
a better option for me to have joined Gavin instead as my GP
o.za
partner, Marc Feher and I have now been relegated to the plate after a fine display of golf by Johann “Belligerent” Bothma and Gavin Brown. I
would however like to commend Gavin and his Staff on making us feel exceptionally welcome. The course is in great condition a nd I know
most of us appreciated the tees being moved forward ever so slightly.
We only had one guest for the game and that was ex-Natal and ex-Southern Natal Nomad, Kevin Pistorius with John Ross. Ryan ‘May as well
join Natal’ Ringo was the only ‘visiting’ Nomad from Southern Natal. It was also my honour to induct 2 new Nomads into our ranks. Brand Van
Niekerk, who is with the Brandfin Group, (specialising in Auditing, Accounting and Taxation) is a member at MECC and plays off a Handicap of
18.7. Sean Phillips plays out of Camelot and has a handicap of 12. Sean owns SP Consulting Services, suppliers of Information Technology.
The slightly shorter course set up seemed to be most appreciated by Craig Allen, Garth Enslin and David Martin. Craig won A Division on 38
points off a 3 handicap. Garth Enslin, taking full advantage of the shots he got back from his recent crying towels, managed 36 points off a 10.
th
Mr. David Martin was however the star of the show, shooting a 40 pointer off an 18 handicap on the day of his daughters 40 party. Very well
played to these gents and all the other winners on the day.
Amongst our formalities at prizegiving, Tony Bolt, a stalwart Nomad for all of 49 years addressed the members and unfortunately informed us
that a dodgy lower back has spelled the end of his golfing career. Tony is fortunately going to remain a Nomad and assures me he will be
joining us regularly for a couple of drinks after our games. We thought it only fitting that Tony present his longstanding fr iend, John Winton
with his 550 Game Badge. What an incredible accolade, congratulations John. Jay Van Rensburg received his 300 Game badge and Robbie Best
received his 25 Year tie. Well done on your awards gentlemen.

To all those who assisted with prizegiving I would like to commend you. It started early and ended just before a God Almig hty storm hit the
Ballito area. Fortunately for those of us that stayed on and enjoyed the sponsors brew the storm managed to chase away the 2 Roadblocks
that had pinned us in at Zimbali.
We had a contingent of 4 Natal Nomads head up to Zimbabwe Nationals and I am sure Tom will report back on their endeavours. I would
th
st
however like to impress on all of you to join us for the Drakensberg and Langham Edward Trophies being played on the 20 and 21 of July.
Helen has sent entries out for these and we would love to see as many of you there as possible. The entry form for Botswana Nationals 2019
th
has also recently been sent out, this takes place on the 12-14 of September 2019 in Gaborone. This is a great opportunity for those of you,
like Johann Bothma, that may not get a spot for eSwatini Nationals to experience a foreign Nationals, so be sure to get your entries in for that
too.
FOR MAY -

Durban Country Club hosts our next monthly game on the 23 of May 2019 and hopefully by that stage they will have recovered from the
recent storm damage. As a result of the closure of the course they have hollow tined their greens too, so we could be in for a real treat on the
Grand Old Lady.
In closing I would like to once again thank the Committee, my wife and kids, and every single Natal Nomad for a wonderful journey as Captain
of Natal Nomads. It has been an EPIC experience to say the least!
I now hand you over to your new Captain, Mr Thomas Barff……Over and out!
Yours in Nomads
