Matchplay Championship & Plate Event 3 – 5 Jul 2019 RP Moodley receives modified golf environment Yet another milestone for the First Swing Program took place last week with the opening of both indoor and outdoor golf environments at RP Moodley school in Kwazulu-Natal. That the SADGA has been able to set up a modified indoor golf environment which caters for the severely disabled is significant as it is only the fourth of its kind to be set up in the entire country. SADGA Operations manager Lily Reich commented that it is important that everyone should be able to get a taste of golf irrespective of physical limitations. “Golf is a game that should be accessible for all. The enjoyment and pleasure that is found in playing the game shouldn’t be determined by one’s physical challenges and the installation of a modified golf environment at RP Moodley is a great way to inject an element of fun into the school days of those who are severely handicapped.” Said Reich. For those RP Moodley pupils who are better-off physically, they too are now able to participate in golf thanks to the installation of an outdoor golf environment. These children are between Levels 1 & 3 of our five-tiered program and now have the opportunity to complete five modified holes of golf on their school field. The unveiling of the golf environments was made all the more special by the presence of our members from KZN so thank you for taking the time to be a part of such a special occasion. A huge thanks to the KZN Golf Union for their role in making this new chapter possible. To Canon South Africa for ensuring our FSP children are kitted out and for providing our children with the opportunity to participate in golf through your generous sponsorship of our events. To KZN DSR, NOMADs and the ladies of Mount Edgecombe Country Club for their contribution and ensuring the event was memorable for all. Finally to Palash Moodley for the supply of paints which allowed Chantal Ely and Mural Art to leave the school with a tangible memento to mark the event.
