Nomads 2018
Our inaugural game (yes, our first game in 55 Years) at Athlone Golf Club situated on Windsor Park Golf Course was

st
hosted on the 21 of February 2019. Those of you who played will agree
that it was a most enjoyable experience.

Considering the financial issues that Athlone/Windsor have been
5715 plagued with over the last 10 months, I thought the
course played reasonably well. The layout of the course fantastic
and would love to see what the course would look like

of being joined on the day by the Vice-Captain of Athlone,

o.za The local knowledge definitely helped as Mike won the
Mike Fetter, Garth Hanger and Sean Lenz (Prospective Member).
B Division on 34 Points, his good score helped the two of us into the runners up in the playing pair too. I would really
like to thank the staff at Athlone Golf Club for the efforts they made in hosting us, in particular the Club Manager,
Samantha Purdy, and her team of Lady members who assisted her behind the bar after the game. Thanks must also go
to our starters on the day, Shaun Barker and Phil Hodgson.
Our guests for the day were Brian Giddy and Alex Crockart. Chris Brooks from Southern Natal was the only visiting
Nomads. Waiting List Members who joined us were Brandon Barnes, Brand Van Niekerk, Sean Phillips and Sean Lenz. I
am sure you all had a good game with us and we look forward to hosting you again soon.
With only 4 showers and a field of 84 odd players, there were a few concerns around the start time of prizegiving. I am
however pleased that the Natal Nomads have embraced this new-found discipline of getting off the course and hitting
the showers straight away. Much to the delight of our scorers on the day, Ian Brewer, Alan Lukan and Mykel Addison, it
appears that with this urge to clean themselves, our members are also more focussed on handing in correctly scored
cards. The combination of all of this resulted in prize-giving commencing at 5.30.
The Divisional winners were A Division, Tom ‘Purple Patch’ Barff on 34 Points, B Division Werner Pieterse on 34 Points
and C Division on 35 Points, Phil Hodgson. Well done to them and all the other winners on the day. It was also my
privilege to hand out a number of ties namely:
45 year tie
40 year tie
35 year tie
25 year tie
10 year tie
5 year tie

Mykel Addison is also the latest member to join our ranks. Mykel is an HR/IR Consultant for CTL Holdings and I am
pleased to say will considerably reduce the average membership age. Welcome to Natal Nomads Mykel.
We have a contingent of 26 Players heading off to the Firethorn Nationals at Randpark from the 9 th to the 15 th of March.
It is a smaller group than we hoped for but I have no doubt that we will have just as much fun as we normally do and fly
