MAY 2019 P AGE 1 Special Presentation: Captains Report Tom Barff, Captain 2019 Cell: 083 225 5334 [email protected] [email protected] raham, Captain – Natal Nomads 2018 Dear Nomads Tel: 031 566 1349 What a treat to have my first game as Captain of Natal Nomads at Cell: my 083 home 647 course, DCC. Better 5715 yet, the course, after being closed for 3 weeks due to heavy rains, had recovered beautifully and email: was in superb condition with the hosting of the Diners PGA that week. I had the pleasure of [email protected] playing with the Vice-Captain of DCC, Alasdair Muir, Jay van Rensburg and Richard Anderson. o.za Alasdair and I couldn’t overcome the 35 shots we had to give Jay and Richard, well played gents! Alasdair spoke to me about how keen DCC are to remain as home to Natal Nomads and that discussions were under way to move our trophy cabinet to a suitable place at DCC. I and the committee will engage with DCC on this matter. My one concern about the day was that we only had 86 players and I would encourage every one of you to be pro-active in inviting more guests to play in the monthly games in the hope that they will join Natal Nomads and we can get back to the days of averaging over 100 players. We had one new inductee on the day, Theo van Rensburg; two waiting listers - Brian Giddey and Alex Crockart and two guests - Ronald Tarboton and Bevan Manson. I also had the pleasure of handing over a 10 year tie to Rob Thornhill, a 100 game badge to Greg Graham and Ray James and a 300 game badge to Guido Wiegmink. 200 Game Badge – Allan van der Veen Ties: 20 Year Tie – Peter Avellini 15 Year Tie – Dave Scott INDUCTIONS: Sean Lenz Brian Giddy Medical Credit received: Dave Watterson Marc Fehe’r New Applications: Alex Crockart Well done Chad on your first prize giving – I thought you did well – and to Steve for once again setting up a great prize table. Welcome to Johan Bothma, our new JVC who did a sterling job getting the field through on time. Thanks to Jane van Rensburg for doing the scoring. I have certainly had an exciting start to my stint as Natal Captain. I was fortunate enough to travel to Ireland on 16 th May to represent Nomads as part of the Konica Minolta prize which I won at the national finals at Randpark Golf Club in January. We played 2 rounds at Kilkea Castle, a beautiful course about an hour outside Dublin. Thank you to Konica Minolta for sponsoring this truly wonderful prize. I also represented Natal as part of the MFC Motus Challenge at Champagne Sports Resort this last weekend. The competition was run over 2 days and my luck ran out after tying first on 62 points but losing on a count-out to Alec Blair from Lowveld – well done Alec. The event was also attended by 12 young development golfers as well a number of Natex members and sponsors. It was truly great to see how Nomads and our sponsors are giving back to junior golf and the smiles on those kids faces when they got kitted out with Taylormade gear – an experience I am sure they will never forget. Let’s hope the rest of the year is as good as the start! Our next game is at Kloof Country Club on Tuesday the 18 th of June 2018.
