On the 1 st August 2019, unbeknown to me, my day was going to be very special.
My mom joined me in dropping the kids at school. While driving, I mentioned to her about gut feeling that I have won
the trip to Scotland for the Alfred Dunhill Links draw...
An hour later my phone rang and it was Andrew Bullen… I was so excited when he told me the news that my ticket was
drawn and I had won the trip to Scotland.
My wife joined me on this trip and what a trip it was!!
All arrangements were attended to by Natasha Taylor from Richemont group who was a superstar and Grant Hepburn
from GolfRSA.
Our private chauffeur awaited our arrival at Edinburgh, taking us to the 5 star Fairmont St Andrews Resort. The Hotel
has 2 golf courses and the most amazing views.
In our room we discovered 2 little Dunhill tags. Little did we know these tags would give us access to just about
anywhere we wanted to go during the tournament.
Daily we caught the shuttle to the courses which depart every 15 minutes. Our 1 st day was spent watching golf at
Carnoustie. The weather was chilly, but pleasant.
The inconvenience of a sudden downpour forced us to take the 1 hour ride back to St Andrews to experience the
Pavillion on the 17 th . What an experience this is!!
Daily they have a 3 course menu with a few options. The food was just amazing!
Local South African wines, a full bar and cheese and biscuits with a high tea later in the afternoon is an ideal way to
spend the day watching golf from the pavilion, as the view of the 17 th green and the 18 th tee at St Andrews is directly
ahead.
After lunch a decision to explore the beautiful town at St Andrews and take the easy walk back to the hotel using the
FIFE Coastal walk….. not as close as it seems – 4.1 miles later, helped burn the calories and prepare for dinner.
We had an amazing dinner at Fairmont Clubhouse restaurant.
The next day we decided to head to Kingsbarnes. WOW!! What a course! We managed to watch the best of the best
golfers. What an experience!
Unfortunately the heavens opened again, and we decided to head to St Andrews to chill at The Pavillion. After a
fantastic lunch, chatting, and rubbing shoulders with different people , Jessica Biel, Bill Murray, just to name a few.
Grant Hepburn from GolfRSA who had arranged the prize for us, went out of his way to host us, introducing us to a
range of interesting people, on this occasion joining Gareth and the Guys from Rupert and Rothschild wines for dinner
at the Steak Barn as I call it. An amazing evening was enjoyed with the owner of St Andrews Brewery bringing along
some Bordeaux wine and Gareth bringing along some great SA wine.
Saturday was a day of experiencing St Andrews Old Course, watching the guys teeing off on the 10 th . Not ever being on
the old course, it was an opportunity to walk the course, once again popping into the pavilion for Lunch, What a
fantastic experience….. Then spending the afternoon exploring the town with Kelly.

Scottish Highland
weather, a little
fresher than the
Durban beachfront.
