Captains Report Tom Barff, Captain 2019 [email protected] [email protected] Dear Nomads The weather played havoc in the days leading up to the Cato Ridge game, hence we didn’t have a great turnout, which is disappointing but I think somewhat understandable. I would like to thank all of you that did play and then stayed for prize giving regardless of the terrible weather we had to endure. I had the pleasure of playing with the Vice-Captain of Cato Ridge, Glen Smith. We played against Chris Brooks from Southern Natal and Nevin Davidson. Unfortunately there was a massive downpour mid-round which resulted in the game being called off early. I think if we had suspended play for an hour we could have easily continued as the weather improved remarkably in the afternoon. I was actually impressed by how well the course held up considering all the rain. Clearly the drainage is good at Cato Ridge at it’s a pity we couldn’t get a full 18 holes in. Once again we had issues with the scoring and Samson following the game. This was due to the fact that we had to adjust scores as a result of the shortened game, and we didn’t have clear guidelines on the process to follow. It was sorted out in the end and all the scores were correct for prize giving. The committee is going to arrange further training on the Samson system with a view to avoiding these recurring issues. We had 5 guests playing on the day - Kevin Moody & Andy Fowler with Greg Graham; Paul Roux with Rob Thornhill; Mike Hayes with Chad Walters; and Tim Chisale invited by John Elliott. We also had 4 visiting Southern Natal Nomads: Chris Brooks, Dave Eaton, Clive Chambler and Mike Cromhout. There was 1 special presentation due at prize giving – but Ian Pace unfortunately had to leave early in his submarine so we will need to arrange his 10 year tie for the next game!! Cato Ridge was the fourth “edition” of our Joker Draw – Thanks to Johan Bothma who was responsible for selling the tickets at registration, as we once again took in a decent amount of funds. R8385 was up for grabs. The 2 names coming out in the lucky draw were Mike Graham and Rob Pringle – no joker was turned and the money is carried over to next month’s Jackpot at Beachwood. Our next game is Gold Cup at Beachwood on Thursday 5 th December, and I look forward to a great day with sunny weather!! Tom Barff Natal Nomads Captain 0832255334 – [email protected]
