GOLFORAMA WELL DONE Nomads A recent letter sent to KEN WALKER, Chairman of Furtherance of Golf NOMADS Foundation, from EDEN THOMPSON, Manager of Golf Operations, GOLFRSA Dear Ken As the 2019 year draws to a close, I would like to, on behalf of GolfRSA, the staff and all our Junior Golfers, extend our sincerest appreciation to you and all the NOMADS whom make it possible for us to present one of the most competitive Junior tours outside of America. Ken, the reason for providing the below detail is that I am 100% convinced that the strength of our amateur golf is directly attributed to the opportunities that are afforded our Juniors to play in exceptionally competitive events – many of which are sponsored by the NOMADS and all of which can be attributed to the fact that the NOMADS have been the primary and greatest contributor to the growth of the Junior game in South Africa. Considering the successes GolfRSA and in particular South African junior players garnered in 2018, it must be said that we had reservations on how the 2019 year would reflect in comparison ………. now, at the end of arguably the most successful year internationally, this is a moot point! GolfRSA and in particular our Junior Golfers, have won more international titles in 2019 than in any previous year in which I was involved (and I venture to say, ever!). 2019 saw the GolfRSA Jnr team dominate and titles were won by the team or individuals as follows;  March 2019 -    May 2019 June 2019 September 2019 - - - - - All Africa Jnr Championship in Botswana winning the team event and Sam Simpson took gold medal honours in the individual event. Martin Vorster won the East of Ireland Championship. GolfRSA Jnr team won the TOYOTA Jnr World Cup and Samuel Simpson again won the Individual honours. Amilkar Bhana won the 2019 Italian u16 International Championship Jayden Schaper won the 2019 Jnr Players Championship – Sawgrass USA 5 GolfRSA Jnr’s were named to the 12 man International Team for the Jnr Presidents Cup in Australia. (bettering the previous 4 players that made this team in 2017) Ken, in addition to this, we have had multiple junior winners locally in Open Amateur and “Professional” events throughout the year and GolfRSA close the year off with 5 Juniors filling the top 5 spots on the “Mens Amateur Rankings” and 6 out of the top 10. Please could you extend our sincerest appreciation to the NOMADS and we would like to wish each and every one a Blessed Christmas and Festive Season and may 2020 see each of them return safely to serve and play the game we love! Yours in Golf Eden EDEN THOMPSON Manager: Golf Operations
