NATAL NOMADS Golf Club Monthly issue Monthly Newsletter Durban Country Club August 2018 | Page 2
Durban Country Club recently I am more and more impressed with what Lance Whiteford and his committee are
achieving. The course is looking magnificent, it is hard to believe we are approaching the end of winter and it is still
in such good nick.
Durban Country Club, through Lance, once again reiterated their proud association with Natal Nomads and our
brand. With the uncertainty surrounding Beachwood, the current home of Natal Nomads, and its longevity this is
very comforting. We look forward to cementing our longstanding relationship.
I had the distinct pleasure of playing my round with Luigi Colmanet, Captain of Lowveld, Mok Lazarro, Captain of
Free State and Roelof Meyer, Captain of Southern Natal. It is always a pleasure gents, I just wish I could have taken
your money but sadly that was not meant to be…Julian Borcherds, the Captain of Mashonaland showed us all up
and took the Captains swindle, well done Jules.
This year we also decided to incorporate The Drakensburg Gardens Cup into our Anniversary/Monthly Game (the
annual triangular competition between Natal, Southern Natal and Gauteng.) Thanks to the Gauteng boys, and their
Captain Sean Ledden, for making the annual pilgrimage up to KZN. I am proud to announce that the trophy was
retained by Natal. I am sure Chad will enlighten the members a little more about this. We did however think that as
a team we should throw the Gauteng lads the proverbial ‘bone’ and let them win the Langham Edward Trophy in
the hope that they would take it home and brag a little to their members so that we could get their numbers up for
next year. Well Done Sean and Gauteng and we look forward to seeing you next year. The camaraderie surrounding
these 2 events is always wonderful and once again made me realise the importance of the away tours and
supporting them as much as we can.
Fortunately we have a little bit of a longer break before our next monthly game on Thursday the 20th of September
at Umkomaas. This game will also incorporate the Captains Challenge.
Yours in Nomads
