Winter cover artist highlight: Bruce Miller

Bruce Miller entered the art world at an early age and his inspirational force now provides artists who are just getting started the chance to be seen. Bruce started Studio Unknown to provide low rent space for artists to work, and opens the space for a small $5 fee each first Friday of the month for approximately 10-15 artists to show their work. Bruce writes:

"I decided on art as a career at the age of 12. At age 14, I met and was subsequently tutored by Marvel Comics artist Dan Adkins. Assisting Dan in his home studio until graduation, I was then sent to Jim Steranko to be a live-in apprentice. I then moved to New York City to be an assistant editor at Marvel and was assistant to him at Marvel Comics all the while painting my own personal style."

Studio Unknown was created by Bruce Miller as a way to provide affordable spaces to other artists. The concept has grown into a multimedia venue for musical performance and other forms of expression. The overall vision of Studio Unknown is having no pretensions and a completely open minded acceptance of what is and what can be. Bruce Miller totally embraces the unknown.

The opportunity for a 'first show' is an experience many artists do not get until they have already become established. While the Greenville art scene has grown through events such as First Fridays, showcasing local studios once a month, Open Studios and Artisphere, we applaud the inclusive space that Studio Unknown provides artists, at any stage in their career.

NARM will highlight more amazing people and their work in the coming issues of the NARM Quarterly. Please send stories you think others would like to read about in upcoming issues.

Happy holidays to you and your families!
