The Chinese American Museum in Washington, DC, is a bold undertaking, currently underway, to establish a nationally recognized institution that preserves, exhibits, and leads a meaningful dialogue about the Chinese American experience. CAMDC’s mission is to advance the understanding, knowledge, and appreciation of the Chinese American experience, by highlighting the history, culture, spirit and contributions of Chinese Americans to our nation and beyond. The Museum’s vision is to be a forward-looking, nationally recognized cultural, arts and education center for everyone. The Museum began as a concept in 2017 with the formation of the nonprofit Chinese American Foundation. By Fall 2017, the Foundation acquired a building and started renovations. The Museum is now operational, and housed in a 1907 Beaux Arts-style mansion in downtown DC, five blocks north of the White House.
