Primarily self-taught, award-winning mixed media artist Theresa Wells Stifel enjoys integrating vintage notions and ephemera into her contemporary works. Being able to combine them into her work so they take a new function as art (rather than end up in a landfill) brings her joy.
Using these scraps in modern art creates new ways of connecting to the past and causing contemplation of the future. Her mission is to create a piece bold enough to stand on its own when viewed across a wide room but that is intricate enough to make you want to walk up close and marvel at the bits that make up the whole.
