Douglas C. Johnson

Douglas C. Johnson has been a landscape painter for over thirty years. His paintings serve to document the artist's deeply felt experience of America's Midwest. With these artworks, he deftly explores its communities and byways as part of our communal participation in our environment. Indeed, it is the fleeting alchemy of everyday transcendence that fuels these work's themes and progress.

Johnson earned a bachelor's and a master's degree in studio art at Illinois State University and a Master of Fine Arts degree at Northern Illinois University. He is the Executive Director of the McLean County Arts Center and serves on the executive board of Arts Alliance Illinois, and is the past president of the Bloomington Rotary Club. Additionally, he founded and serves as president of the Area Arts Round Table (a consortium of McLean County Arts programmers) and is past co-chair of the Local Arts Network (a statewide group of executive directors at cultural institutions).

Johnson has artworks in many public and private collections including these: J.P. Morgan Securities, Chicago; Illinois State University; The town of Normal, IL; The city of Bloomington, IL; and the Brooklyn Museum of Art; OSF Community Cancer Center, Normal, IL; the collection of Benjamin Mahmoud, the collection of Darryl Hannah; and the collection of the Saint Elizabeth Medical Center of Lincoln, Nebraska.
