Demographic Characteristics Of NARCOMS Participants With Primary Or Secondary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis
SNAPSHOT
Men with progressive MS report consuming more alcohol compared to women with progressive MS, but the impact of alcohol consumption and the course of disease is not clear and needs further study. This is also true for results comparing the course of progressive MS between participants who are partnered and those who are single. Studies examining the influence of caregiving by partners rather than professional home care assistance are needed to examine the role of environment in disease progression.
Differences in disease progression due to physiology, demographics, and behaviors may have a role in the differences observed in relation to sex. Future research is needed to clarify sex-dependent differences in MS symptoms and disease progression. Your participation in NARCOMS fuels future research.
