commonly reported infections for those responding to the survey , with 22.7 % reporting a cold and 18.5 % reporting a UTI in the past 6 months . The risk of these infections appears to vary with age , gender , and disability level .
In Figure 1 , we show the percent of NARCOMS participants reporting a common cold infection and UTIs in relation to gender over the six months prior to the survey . For the common cold , the rate (% of participants ) was similar between men and women . However , UTIs occurred more often in women compared to men . The results of both types of infection demonstrated here in people with MS are similar to that observed in the general population . 2
Figure 2 shows the distribution of infection with the common cold or a UTI in relation to age in years . Again , the incidence of the common cold and UTIs in NARCOMS participants was similar to that in the
