VIew from the press box
With Jack Jones Nantwich Town’ s Press Officer
Welcome to the Weaver Stadium for our home game against fellow promotion chasers Whitby Town. It’ s a long old trip down from the North East, so safe travels to the Seasiders on both legs of their journey today.
Points raised by Blyth Spartans: In our last match against the league leaders on Tuesday, I felt both teams put on a fantastic advert for lower league football. An excellent crowd of 531 saw the teams battle out a thrilling 2-2 draw. Both sides displayed great quality, passion and determination and showed why they are currently the top two teams in the league.
The game had a bit of everything, with both teams going ahead and having to come from behind. It had bags of excitement and four quality goals on show. The best of the bunch had to be a superb overhead kick from Josh Hancock, who showed a great bit of improvisation to squeeze the ball under the cross bar. It added to the plethora of quality goals the Dabbers have scored this season and I am going to have a
hard time picking a shortlist of the best ten for our Goal of the Season competition!
I hope the fans that braved the awful conditions were rewarded for their efforts and can help spread the word about non-league football and hidden quality it possesses.
The opposition: We now go into our final eight games of the season in a fantastic position, well placed to secure a play off spot. That won’ t be easy though, with a host of teams close behind us in the table.
First up is a visit from Whitby, who are one of the surprise packages this season. It was only 11 months ago that they finished two points above the drop zone in 19th. This season, they have been in and around the play off spots all season and currently sit just outside the top five by a single point.
Manager Chris Hardy plays a similar style of football to Nantwich, so this should be an attractive and attacking game, with both teams looking to play football the right way.
Home comforts: With Blyth and now Whitby, our tough run in continues until the end of the season, with the games coming thick and fast. Particularly important are our home games. After todays game, we have four more games on home soil, against Matlock Town, Ilkeston, Ashton United and Workington. With crowds and noise on the rise at the Weaver Stadium, we are going to need your backing now more than ever.
Lets get behind the team and roar them on to three points!
