Chamber-Sponsored Events
I
t takes a “village” to plan and produce the Chamber’s major annual
events. Logistics for the Daffodil Festival
in late April entail obtaining street blocking permits from the NPD and permission
from the State to hold a vehicular parade
on Milestone Road (Nantucket’s only state
highway). Highly
collectible commemorative pins
are designed and
ordered, along
with automobile
dash plaques
for Antique Car
Parade participants. Organizing
Christmas Stroll
Weekend begins
(amazingly) in
August when the
order is placed for
over 100 balsam
trees which grace
Main Street during
Nantucket Noel.
Stroll pins (like
Daffy pins!) are
wildly popular. Our ever-vigilant Events
Committee votes on the design, and discusses other merchandise options such as
scarves and hats. They also orchestrate

varied weekend entertainment and activities. Trees arrive on island in late November, and a tireless crew from the DPW
installs them, stringing lights on each and
every one. (Thanks, Dale and company!)
Replacement of standard lights with energy-efficient LED lights a few years ago
has significantly
reduced electric
utility costs. The
Tree Lighting and
Community Caroling Ceremony
is held the day
after Thanksgiving, followed by
Stroll Weekend,
Home for the
Holidays and
the Holiday Red
Ticket Drawing
on Christmas Eve.
Our year comes
to a close with
preparation for
Nantucket New
Years, featuring a
lavish themed ball
at the Nantucket Hotel, as well as a flurry
of family-friendly activities and revelry
island-wide.
