Despite it all, the public had come to see him as an asset in a political climate that had become hostile toward anything deemed disingenuous, the deciding factor in their desires to have him ascend to the second-highest position in American politics, with a strong case for a seat in the Oval Office within the next decade. Now, with an energized voting bloc looking to him for that leadership along with his running mate, he realized he needed to remain calm, even in this time of personal crisis. Any sign, any inclination of weakness, could be devastating and could be used by the other Republicans to destroy his image, especially considering the current administration’s penchant for using any weakness as a bullying point of focus.
