He initially scoffed at the idea, but paused for a moment of reflection. If he sidestepped them—although he had no clue of how they found out where he was staying—they could skew things to make him look horrible in the public eye. It was the nature of the beast, and he had to get used to the late nights and earlier mornings once they won the election. “No, send them in, Lea, and let them know I’ll be down in a few minutes.” He rushed into the restroom to dress and freshen up before receiving his unexpected guests. A few minutes later, he emerged from the bedroom area, looking like the past few hours never happened. He entered the living area, expecting a small throng of reporters to greet him. To his surprise, there was a young woman waiting for him. She stood up to greet him as he approached her. “Hello, Senator Warren, my name is Lana Velez, from the LA Times. Thank you for agreeing to meet with me at such a late hour.” “You’re quite welcome, Ms. Velez. Please, have a seat.” Terrell regarded the well- tanned beauty, wondering what she was doing there in the first place. He was still unsure how his location had been compromised, but he decided to roll with it for the moment. Lea had made him aware of the relocation plans she’d made to try to throw off his pool of journalists, which made this impromptu visit all the more unusual. She looked like she couldn’t be older than mid-twenties, but the way she moved seemed to lend to a more mature presentation. She was statuesque; five-foot-ten and possessed a very svelte figure, with ample hips that accentuated the skirt she wore for the occasion. She was a stunning woman; he’d guessed Boricua, but there was no doubt she was easy on the eyes. She seemed a bit anxious; he gathered she might be new to the political beat and perhaps was trying to use this interview as her possible “big break.” He kept himself aware of that as she struggled to make herself comfortable around him, constantly fidgeting with her skirt as she awaited his cue for her to begin. “First, I want to extend my concern over the incident that has befallen your wife. I realize I am asking for this at an ungodly hour, but I have a deadline to hit.” Lana brushed a strand of hair from her face as she struggled to keep eye contact.
