black panther: the album
“Woke.” Hype. “Ratchet.” Truthful.
-PORTIA A. COSBY
Whether on your way to work, cleaning your house, or
in the club, the music on this Black Panther soundtrack
is sure to make you bop, sway, bounce, or do one of those
new dances we don’t know the name of.
All the Stars is probably my favorite track. Almost
everything SZA is associated with is hot, and her pairing
with Kendrick Lamar was perfect. X is a close second. I
dare you to sit still when you listen to it. You can’t. Now
I could do without the song, Opps, but if I was cleaning
my house with the album playing, I wouldn’t go out of my
way to turn it off.
In short, the whole soundtrack is a vibe. I like
the variety and appreciated the opportunity to hear
unfamiliar/lesser known artists. This album is perfect for
hip-hop heads who appreciate a true lyricist, those who
prefer the ratchet rap babble that’s not directly related to
the song’s premise, and others who prefer mid-tempo
grooves that make you snap your fingers and two-step
in your living room.
